Cherry Blossom Family Session

You can never get enough of the splendid sakura (cherry blossom) season in Japan, every year from March to April tens of thousands of travelers fly to Japan to experience this amazing scenery all over the nation.
My recent session, the family was from Moscow, Russia, they traveled to Tokyo and wanted to have their family photos taken with the sakura, we picked our location at Shinjuku Gyoen, and it was an absolutely beautiful afternoon. We all had such a great time roaming around the park. Their daughter Sasha was just so photogenic and I almost couldn’t put my camera down. After the park we quickly walked over to the busy shopping district nearby and finished our session there.

If you are interested booking my lifestyle family photography service, please don’t hesitate to contact me, or the session could be purchased as a gift and send to someone you care about.

Stranger portrait - 1

Very once in a while I would do some stranger portrait, but I must say I am still not comfortable walking up to stranger and ask them for photos, I guess the reason is rather simple, we all afraid being turned down, what if they say no? what if they just walk away from me without even saying a word? Many many times I have all these assumptions pop inside my head, so I stopped.

Weeks I saw a video from Jamie Windsor talking about asking stranger for photos and I thought, maybe I should recalibrate my thinking and step forward and doing it, at the end of the day, if the answer is “No”

So I was in Shibuya walking around after my photo shoot and I said to myself, I must do one stranger portrait today, so I started to hunt. To be honest, I felt like I was a stalker checking out people around me, and I missed quite a few chances because I didn’t enough guts. Finally I saw an old man walking with his wife, the reason I picked him was because his long beard. Then I approached with courage and asked him if I could take a portrait of him, and lucky me he said Yes! So we did a super quick portrait. They were French living in Canada, traveling to Japan for vacation. Wife told me he’d like to style his beard everyday before going out. One thing I didn’t get was his name, because I was a bit nervous so completely forgot about it.

After shoot was done I felt like I was accomplished a huge task, later that night when I was editing the photos and I looked at it and was like, “Yeah, I could do that, it wasn’t too hard.” My stranger portrait will continue of course and I am aiming 50 strangers in 2019, will see.
